When in Rome do as the Romans do
When in rome do as the romans do. It sounds easy, but hard to do it. Many Chinese people who have lived abroad for many years, can not say that each of them can follow local customs.
To the majority of Chinese, they would not feel happy when they do not eat Chinese food. They would always feel hungry. Once they see cheese, butter and sausages they would lost their appetite. Salat and onion make them feel uncomfortable. It seems that there is no other food to eat except bread and potatoes. Chinese people would never understand why Good fish is pickled that tastes unpleasantly sour!
As a matter of course, people in Europe and America eat with folk and knife which is very hard for Chinese people, who normally use chopsticks. It seems to be very busy with left and right hands, especially hard for those, who are left-handed, a big distance should be kept to his neighbours. Slurping and smacking are absolutely forbidden, otherwise would be seen as uneducated.
In Europe and America, most of people like drinking coffee, but there are also tea lovers. Tea is made into small bags, one bag for one cup. Not like Chinese. Once they put tea in the cup, they don’t change it ( only pour hot water in ). It is said that the second and the third time tea should taste the best, sweet-smelling but not too strong.
When crossing the road, you must wait until the traffic light turns green, even if there is no traffic at all when red, you should also stop walking.
In most of European countries lots of shops and supermarkets close very early. When you begin to work, shops and supermarkets start working, too; when you knock off work, they close. You won’t get anything unless you leave off you work earlier. All shops are closed on Sunday.
In fact, each country has it own local customs and habits. When in rome do as the romans do. Since you are in a foreign courty, you should follow the local customs, respect others, so get respected.
