What is China doing while the whole world learning Chinese?
Once in a while I read an internet article names „ What is China doing while the world learning Chinese?” After reading this article, I had lots of thoughts.
The article said there’s a strange internet language coming out in China while the whole world is learning Chinese, especially this internet language is widely used within teenages. They take a word which has silimiar pronouciation but totally different meaning instead of the correct one. For example: “wo” gan “shen me” — what do I do. They say “ou”(even) instead of the correct one “wo”(I); “xia mi” ( shrimps) instead of “shen me” ( what) “. putting all words together, then it means “even do shrimps”which is completely different from “what do I do”and makes no sense at all. “KPM” is short cut for “KFC – Pizza and McDonald’s, and all these make people really don’t understand what they exactly mean.
Alongside the Chinese economic booming, a Chinese craze has broken out. Since the first “Confucius Institute” was found in 2004 in South Korea, gradually there are 54 “Confucius Institutes” established in more than 30 countries and regions whose aim is to carry forward Chinese culture, popularize the Chinese language and to make people feel interested in learning Chinese, in order that they could learn better about China and Chinese culture.
Someone ever said that they missed English craze in the 70ties, they also missed Japanese craze in the 80ties; now the 21th century belongs to Chinese which must not be missed again. In America the Chinese craze is even more popular. 10 year old teenages, even kids are brought to Chinese Schools by their parents as the parents said that it would be necessary to let their children learn one more foreign language, especially the Chinese language, in order to be better prepared for future fierce competitions when their children grow up in about 15 or 20 years time. Compare with them, we feel really ashamed. In case if the examples mentioned above would go further, then such a strange language would be a dominant language, Chinese language would slowly lose it’s ability of expressions in completion and wealth, especially the ability of writing Chinese. Articles that are written in such a language would be understood by nobody. What is the meaning of such articles written in a strange language? Who would be able to understand it?
Even more strange, Chinese names with traditional meanings are experiencing the same tragic fate! Names given to their children are no longer “ling” or “Hong”such Chinese meaningful names, but very western such as Japanese or European names like “Christina” or “Alexander” and so on. There is even one thing that you can not image is that “@” is used as a name for a Chinese boy! His parent said that “@” is “ai ta” in Chinese, and means “love him” in English!
We should really ask ourselves what’s the hell China doing while the whole world is madly learning Chinese?!
