• The Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube or abbreviated [H₂O], is an aquatics center that was built alongside Beijing National Stadium in the Olympic Green for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The Aquatics Center will host the Swimming, Diving and Synchronized Swimming events during the Olympics.
• Das Nationale Schwimmzentrum, auch Water Cube (abgekürzt [H₂O]) genannt, ist die Wettkampfstätte für die Wettbewerbe im Schwimmsport, Kunst- und Turmspringen, Wasserball sowie Synchronschwimmen bei den Olympischen Sommerspielen 2008 in der chinesischen Hauptstadt Peking.

Comprising a steel space frame, it is the largest ETFE clad structure in the world with over 100,000 m² of ETFE pillows that are only eight one-thousandths of an inch in total thickness, The ETFE cladding allows more light and heat penetration than traditional glass, resulting in a 30% decrease in energy costs. The outer wall is based on the Weaire-Phelan structure, a foam (structure formed by soap bubbles). The pattern is formed by taking a slice through the foam, and it was chosen in preference to the Kelvin foam because the more complex Weaire-Phelan structure results in more irregular, organic patterns than slices through the regular Kelvin foam. The structure will have a capacity of 17,000 during the games that will be reduced to 6,000 afterwards. It also has a total land surface of 65,000 square metres and will cover a total of 7.8 acres.

Das Gerüst des Schwimmzentrums basiert auf einer Leichtbaukonstruktion von unregelmäßigen Waben, die ein extrem leichtes Raumfachwerk bilden, dessen geometrische Struktur vom Schaum abgeleitet ist – einem „Aggregatzustand“ des Wassers. Die einzelnen Waben der Außenhaut und des Daches wurden mit über 3.500 Folienelementen aus hellblauer ETFE-Folie bestückt, auf die Videos projiziert werden können. Neben dem medialen Zweck dient die plastische Hülle dabei auch der passiven Nutzung der Sonneneinstrahlung auf das Gebäude. Neunzig Prozent der einfallenden Sonnenenergie kann zum Heizen der Wasserbecken und der Innenräume genutzt werden.
Neben mehreren Schwimmbecken sind auf insgesamt 70.000 m² Nutzfläche eine Eiskunstlaufbahn, eine Sporthalle, ein Kino und verschiedene Clubs untergebracht. Nach den Olympischen Spielen soll der „Water Cube“ als Freizeitzentrum für den Volkssport und den Leistungssport genutzt werden.
