Today I read an article in Wenxuecity and couldn’t help laughing. The article said that a small city in US which would be the first city that would boycott his city to buy “Made in China”.
The Mayor of the small city explained that products like toys and pet food with “made in China” have quality and safety problems which were recalled sometime ago. Besides, there are still problems of Human Rights as well as the environmental pollution. Based on such reasons, the Mayor suggested to limit the city from purchasing goods made in China ” …should not buy Chinese goods which costs over 50 $ , or if half of components are made in China. However, if there is no other choice to buy non-made in China, or the price of non-made in China is higher than 150%, then they could buy made in China. Because of a large amount of made in China, there is a big number of jobs are lost.”
I just couldn’t stop laughing. It is really ridiculous! Once you made a decision to boycott, you should boycott thoroughly, not conditionally. It may surprise you, but the US is currently purchasing over $85 billion in quality Chinese products each year. The import products cover a wide range of engineered machinery items, casting, injection mouldings, wood and steel furniture, paper products, computers and components, etc. An American author Sara Bongiorni worte a book <<One year without made in China>>. The book shows that she and her family’s one year life experience without made in China. People can still live without made in China, but they have to pay a big price for it, and life is really troublesome. At the end they gave it up.

oh yes, I know this book and I think, I read an article in Your blog in german about this book ???
btw I don’t want to live without “made in china” such as yummy chinese food…

You are possibly right, but the world is too complex. You can’t think things innocently. There must be many reasons why they want to boycott products from China, however, one thing for sure that they think things only one-sided. Either they don’t know China well (only heard about China on radio or TV, or newspaper), or they don’t want to know China. There is a Chinese proverb:人怕出名猪怕壮! It means that people will get trouble when they are known;pigs will be butchered when they are fat. Once you produce goods, you must face problems of quality. No one product without quality problems. China is not perfect! Just read an article that the Japanese car manufacture Toyota recalled about 470.000 cars from the whole world because of defective systems for fuel and operating. But people still buy Toyota cars as people knwo exactly that the Toyota is good value for money and quality problem is only coincidence. The same to Chinese products.
Of course China should learn a lot and improve quality. Only lower prices can not last longer. What people expect is to have good quality and reasonable prices.
I also tried to find anything which is not made in China, but very few.
You can’t stop they to boycott, as I said how far could they go without made in China.
中国经济发展快,值得高兴,但远远没到别人离开你的产品就不能生活的程度,我还要说,how far could we go without others market.

“…离开中国产品地球照样转…” that’s absolutely right. The earth turns anyway, regardsless with or without you. As I said before that China needs to learn a lot and has a long way to go to get a good image of quality and price. Germany and Japan are highly developed industry country, but they faced the same situation in the 50s or 60s. So, from this point of view, China still has hope to catch Germany and Japan, possibly very soon.
